Corn Dolly Workshop ~ Intermediate Weaves
About
An intermediate corn dolly weaving workshop at Butser Ancient Farm, teaching advanced straw weaves to make designs like swallows, horseshoes and hearts.
This one-day workshop (10am–3pm with a lunch break) is for participants with some previous corn dolly experience, guided by tutor Sally Murdoch, one of the last remaining tutors of this endangered craft in the South of England. Attendees try several different weaves before making designs such as swooping swallows, horseshoes, lanterns or hearts, taking home at least two or three finished pieces with ribbons and charms provided. The history of corn dollies as harvest tokens is woven into the teaching, and the session takes place in Butser Ancient Farm's historic buildings. Suitable for ages 16+, with under-18s accompanied by an adult.
