Traditional Scottish Roofing
About
A technical learning session on traditional Scottish roofing materials and repair, with morning talks, a networking lunch and an afternoon walking tour of Stirling's Old Town.
This learning session explores the slate, lead and iron traditionally used to roof Scottish buildings over the past three centuries, with three morning talks on methods, materials and current best practice for repair. It also covers HES initiatives to reopen dormant slate quarries, including prospects for Scotland's first working slate quarry since the 1950s. Full-day attendees join a networking lunch and an afternoon walking tour around Stirling's Old Town to observe roof repair and conservation issues, while a virtual ticket covers the morning session on Microsoft Teams. Aimed at heritage professionals, students and anyone interested in building conservation, the session counts towards CPD with a certificate of attendance.
