Keum-Boo Masterclass
About
A half-day masterclass teaching the ancient Korean gilding technique of Keum-Boo, attaching pure gold to silver, for intermediate jewellery makers.
This half-day masterclass at Central Scotland School of Jewellery introduces jewellery makers to Keum-Boo, an ancient Korean gilding technique meaning 'attached gold', which permanently bonds an ultra-fine layer of pure gold to solid silver. The session begins with a practical demonstration before participants experiment with texture and pattern, creating designs in fine silver and gold, with reticulation and oxidation explored as ways to add depth. Attendees produce a set of samples that can be developed into finished pieces. The class is aimed at intermediate makers with existing sawing, drilling and soldering skills, which are not taught during the session.
