Octopus Setting Masterclass
About
A one-day intermediate jewellery workshop teaching the contemporary octopus stone-setting technique, from jump ring making to setting stones in silver.
Central Scotland School of Jewellery hosts a one-day masterclass in octopus setting, a technique that secures a round gemstone within a small wire ring or jump ring for a three-dimensional, organic look. Students practise on copper with a range of stone sizes before progressing to sterling silver, and time-dependent may make a small pendant or set of earrings. The class covers choosing suitable stones, making jump rings and a setting tool, and pushing metal around the stone to hold it permanently. It is aimed at intermediate students already familiar with sawing, filing and soldering, and runs 11am to 4pm.
