Natural Dyes - Indigo
About
A six-week evening course at Mary Ward Centre teaching indigo natural dyeing, shibori resist techniques and sustainable textile practices.
This hands-on course introduces the heritage and science of indigo dyeing using environmentally friendly methods. Over six weekly sessions, participants create and maintain a fructose-based indigo vat, apply traditional shibori resist and tie-dye techniques, and use plant-based fixatives and mordants to set natural colour. Sessions also cover basic pH principles and experimentation with upcycled fabrics, with all basic equipment provided. The course suits beginners and creatives interested in slow fashion and regenerative design.
