Sewing Machine Introduction

A one-day Saturday course at Mary Ward Centre, Stratford teaching beginners how to use a sewing machine confidently.

This one-day course introduces the sewing machine to complete beginners and those with limited experience. Students learn to name the machine's parts, wind a bobbin, thread the machine, choose suitable needles and threads for different fabrics, use basic foot attachments, and sew basic seams and finishes used in garment construction. Learning combines tutor demonstrations with hands-on practice and one-to-one guidance, and the course can lead on to longer sewing, clothes-making or pattern-cutting courses.
