Passive Intervention and Prevention Strategies (PIPS) Training
About
A one-day training course for school staff on developing a consistent team approach to managing challenging behaviour through prevention and passive intervention strategies.
PIPS training is aimed at staff working in primary, secondary, special schools and alternative provisions, supporting them to develop a consistent, effective and acceptable team approach to managing behaviour while maintaining positive relationships and minimising risk. The day covers two modules: Module 1 addresses prevention and de-escalation, including values, the emotional impact of challenging behaviour and positive prevention strategies; Module 2 covers passive intervention, promoting the least intrusive, most caring handling techniques based on 'making movement safe' rather than 'overpowering'. Participants practise skills of guiding, safe touch and holding, and explore risk assessment, recording and reporting. The course runs 9am to 4pm and includes lunch and refreshments.
