Coiled Fabric Baskets Workshop
About
A one-day workshop at the Scottish Craft School learning traditional fabric coiling techniques to make a basket or bowl from salvaged rope and scrap textiles.
Participants spend the day wrapping and stitching rope and fabric to build a sculptural basket or bowl, experimenting with colour, shape and scale. The workshop uses salvaged ropes, scrap fabrics and old clothing, with an emphasis on upcycling and reducing textile waste; attendees are encouraged to bring their own garments or scrap textiles to incorporate. Tutor Eilidh Weir, founder of sustainable fashion brand All That Is Braw, guides the process, and no previous sewing or weaving experience is necessary. The class runs 11am–4pm, is suitable for over 16s, and materials, tools, tea and coffee are provided.
