Race, Racism, and the Return of the Far Right
About
A six-week evening sociology course at Mary Ward Centre examining race, racism and far-right politics through key thinkers, taught by Sahra Taylor.
This six-week course explores the recent rise of anti-immigrant rhetoric and far-right politics in the UK, asking whether it is a new phenomenon or a continuation of long-standing racial inequality. Each weekly seminar focuses on a key thinker — from Edward Said and W.E.B. Du Bois to Frantz Fanon, bell hooks, Cedric Robinson and Robin DiAngelo — connecting their ideas to contemporary debates. Teaching combines tutor presentations, discussion, group work and documentary viewing, with no formal assessment. No previous knowledge is required, though basic familiarity with sociology is helpful.
