Light Night Leeds: Paradise Carpet

A free interactive light installation by Zarah Hussain blending Islamic carpet patterns with digital art, part of Light Night Leeds 2026.

Paradise Carpet is an immersive installation inviting visitors to remove their shoes and experience an ever-changing carpet of light, with geometric patterns accompanied by colour and sound. For Light Night Leeds 2026, artist Zarah Hussain has created a new design inspired by Pakistani Ajrakh floor coverings in the University of Leeds' International Textile Collection. The work weaves together the history of Islamic carpets with contemporary digital art, celebrating migration, cross-cultural connection and shared humanity.
