Camera Trapping for Mammals

A two-session practical course at Gosforth Nature Reserve teaching how to use camera traps to monitor UK mammals, with hands-on deployment and data analysis.

Tutored by Dr Sammy Mason, this two-part NHSN Lifelong Learning course runs on Saturday mornings at Gosforth Nature Reserve. The first session covers how camera traps work and how to choose settings and locations, before deploying cameras in suitable habitats on the reserve. In the second session participants review and classify their captured footage using the MammalWeb citizen science platform, learning species identification, data management and how to contribute records to monitoring programmes.
