Francisco ‘Tún’
About
A free exhibition marking the first international institutional solo show of the late Indigenous Guatemalan painter Francisco Tún.
Nottingham Contemporary presents the first international institutional solo exhibition of the late Indigenous Guatemalan artist Francisco Tún (1948–1989). The show surveys his self-taught, uncategorisable paintings — expansive colour fields punctuated by minute human figures, made on canvas, wood and textiles — reflecting urban and rural life in Guatemala City. Though acclaimed in Guatemala from 1969 onwards, Tún vanished from the art scene and died or disappeared in 1989; this exhibition marks the first time his work is shown to international audiences.
