Sam Bassett in Conversation with Liz Gilmore
About
Artist Sam Bassett joins The Sherborne's CEO Liz Gilmore for a talk and Q&A on his work, Cornish identity and the legacy of St Ives art.
Contemporary Cornish artist Sam Bassett, who works from the historic Porthmeor Studios in St Ives, sits down with The Sherborne's CEO Liz Gilmore for an evening conversation with audience Q&A. Their discussion covers the inspirations behind his practice — from atmospheric fog paintings to themes of housing, tourism, community and the changing realities of Cornish life — alongside the legacy of artists such as Peter Lanyon, Barbara Hepworth, Wilhelmina Barns-Graham and Alfred Wallis. Doors open at 5pm, with the conversation running 6pm–7pm; the event is part of The Sherborne's Cornish Art Talks series.
