Historic Bricks and Tiles
About
A morning of talks on conserving fired clay products in Scotland's historic buildings, focusing on brickwork and tiling, with an optional networking lunch.
Historic Environment Scotland's learning session explores how brick, terra cotta, faience and tiles have shaped Scotland's built environment, despite the country's stone-built reputation. Three morning talks cover the material characteristics and 19th-century industrial production of brick clay products, their use in Scottish buildings and their weathering and decay behaviour, and repair, restoration, cleaning techniques and sustainable sourcing of replacements. The in-person ticket includes a networking lunch at the Engine Shed; a virtual ticket for the morning session is hosted on Microsoft Teams. The session counts towards CPD with a certificate of attendance issued.
