Heritage Science
About
A learning session introducing how material science is applied to heritage conservation in Scotland, with an optional afternoon of practical demonstrations.
Historic Environment Scotland's Heritage Science team presents a day on the applied use of material science in conservation. The morning covers how science is used in the lab and on site to understand masonry materials and their decay, including petrographic analysis, infrared thermography, microwave moisture monitoring and scientific applications in archaeology. Those attending in person enjoy a networking lunch and afternoon practical demonstrations of the team's analytical equipment, while a virtual ticket covers the morning session on Microsoft Teams. The session counts towards CPD and is aimed at graduates, heritage professionals, building practitioners and anyone interested in traditional building conservation.
