Traditional Scottish Roofing
About
A day of talks on traditional Scottish roofing materials and techniques, with an optional afternoon walking tour of Stirling's Old Town.
Historic Environment Scotland's learning session introduces the materials and methods traditionally used to roof Scottish buildings, covering natural slate, lead and cast iron, plus the prospects for reopening Scotland's first working slate quarry since the 1950s. Three morning talks are followed by a networking lunch, and full-day attendees join speakers on a walking tour of Stirling's Old Town to see roof repair and conservation issues first-hand. A virtual ticket for the morning session on Microsoft Teams is available for those unable to attend in person. The session counts towards CPD and is aimed at heritage professionals, building practitioners and anyone interested in building conservation.
