Darning Techniques
About
A one-day textile workshop at Mary Ward Centre, Stratford teaching patching, strengthening stitches and darning techniques for practical and artistic mending.
This one-day course with tutor Rosina Godwin covers basic textile repair skills, including standard and reversed patches, strengthening stitches, standard darning, knitwear darning, Swiss darning and simple pattern weaving. The morning focuses on patching and strengthening stitches, while the afternoon explores several darning methods, with demonstrations and a presentation on artists pushing the creative boundaries of repair. Participants bring a garment or fabric to mend and leave with samples, repaired objects or a decorative textile piece.
